Who should take this course?
This course is for healthcare providers.
Non-healthcare providers may view the HSI Basic CPR Certification class.
This course trains participants to:
- promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies,
- give high-quality chest compressions,
- deliver appropriate ventilations
- recognize the need for early use of an AED
What skills does this course teach?
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
- The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
- Rescue breathing techniques in adults and pediatrics
- Use of an AED
- Effective ventilations using a barrier device
- Importance and effectiveness of team members during multi-rescuer CPR
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
Students must pass a written exam and skills test in order to qualify for a BLS for Healthcare Provider Course Completion Card. BLS provider cards are good for 2 years from the date of issuance.
